What Does Chimney Relining Cost in Montana?

The honest answer is that it depends on your chimney. Height, flue size, bends, access and the appliance all change the job. The good news is that "it depends" turns into a firm number after one visit, and this post explains what goes into that number.

WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR

A chimney liner is the only thing standing between the fire and the rest of your building. Relining puts a new liner inside the chimney you already have, so the masonry stays where it is. The alternative is tearing the chimney apart and rebuilding it: opening walls, breaking out tile, days of work and dust, and the largest bill on the list.

WHAT MOVES THE PRICE

The length of the run is the first thing we measure. A two-story home, a tall lodge chimney and a short single-story flue are very different jobs. The size and shape of the flue matter too, because a square tile flue and a round pipe do not fit each other the same way.

Offsets and bends are the next question. A rigid steel liner struggles to follow a chimney that jogs around a beam, and sometimes that means extra work to make it fit. FuranFlex follows offsets, bends and twists, which is one reason we carry both options.

Access matters in the mountains. Roof pitch, height, snow and how we reach the top of the chimney all affect the day. So does the condition of the flue, because a flue full of debris or broken tile needs more cleaning and prep before anything goes in.

Finally, the appliance decides the product. A wood-burning fireplace or stove gets a stainless steel liner. A gas or oil fired boiler or furnace is where FuranFlex earns its keep. Commercial boiler stacks are their own category, priced on the size of the stack and how we reach it.

RELINE OR REBUILD?

For most failed liners, relining is the repair. It restores a continuous, sealed flue inside the existing chimney with no demolition, and most jobs are one day on site. Rebuilding makes sense when the masonry itself is failing on the outside, and we will tell you if that is what we see.

WHY MONTANA IS HARD ON CHIMNEYS

Long heating seasons, heat cycling and freeze-thaw crack terra cotta tile liners over time. Water gets into the cracks, freezes and opens them further. Most of this damage happens inside the flue, where nobody can see it from the ground.

WHAT THE ASSESSMENT COSTS, AND WHAT YOU GET

The price of a relining job starts with a Level 2 inspection, which is $600. We inspect the flue with a camera, measure it, photograph what we find, and give you a written recommendation and a firm price. If the liner is sound, we will tell you that too. After the assessment is complete, you will be provided a multi-page industry standard report.
